Cyclocross is the sport of mountain biking in the winter and over obstacles. Cyclocross biking is more challenging, keeps you in shape for summer biking, and is far better than sitting indoors. This site intends to bring people together and provide information about the sport. Please send contributions to admin@cyclocross.com

Riding Down Snowy Mountain Tree Lined Hill on Cyclocross Bike

Cyclocross Bike Design

A cyclocross bike is a little different than a road bike. It is stronger, has more clearance of sprocket and pedals, and more clearance for the tires, and lower gears. The frame may also be more comfortable to carry on your shoulder. For example, some cyclocross bikes have a flat top frame tube to make it feel nicer to carry on your shoulder.

These types of bikes are ideally suited for everyday riding. The additional clearance makes it easier to get around bumps and is nice. In addition, you may ride with regular road tires or add knobbies and other kinds of tires. You can't do that with a road bike.

They are lighter and faster than any mountain bike. They also have better control or steering than a mountain bike. That makes them a nice bike to have. You may get your start in cyclocross on a mountain bike, but it will not take you very far. Mountain bikes are just not fast enough to get the job done. They are too heavy and clumsy.

A nice added touch for everyday riding are tubular tires and tires that are supple and handle well.
